Swap Breakdown Day 3- 3x3 card

3x3 cards a great to have on hand to write a little thank you on for a dear friend, co-worker, or maybe a love note to your sweetie. Also, think about how great they'd be to carry a few in your purse to give out as a Random Act of Kindness.

The layout for this card was what I'd designed for the M&T at my new catalog open house at the end of May. Except our M&T was just a 3x3 tag and not a full card.
I had wanted to feature new products at that open house, and this card is 100% new products.

Layering punched images with our punches is one of my favorite techniques to add a little pop to a card. So what do I do when one of our punches does not have a coordinating bigger punch, such as the Artisan Label? I faux layer it! I cut the punched layer in half and then glue it peeking out a little at the top and bottom.

Swap Breakdown Day 2- WOW! Card

As with the punch art, I was over-thinking this card a lot when I was trying to design it. So I headed to Pinterest in hopes of finding a wow project for inspiration. I struck gold with this pin.

There were minimal instructions on the blog post so I had to figure it out with just a little trial and error.
The card was relatively simple for as complicated as it looks.

You score straight lines at 3 inches on all four sides of your 12 x 12 cardstock. Then grab the Simply Scored Diagonal Scoring Plate and put it on top of your Simply Scored. Score diagonally at 6 and 9 inches on all four sides. Looking at these pictures should help you figure out which ways to fold on the score marks to make it come together. Here's a hint: Valley Folds on all the straight score lines and Mountain Folds on all the diagonal score lines.

I love the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper that is brand new this year (and through the end of July it's Buy 3, Get 1 Free). I picked these two patterns that weren't too hard on the eyes when folded together. I liked the idea of only putting the DSP on the triangles you would see when it was folded and thought the black cardstock made a nice contrast when it was open. My alma mater's colors are black and gold, so I kept thinking, "Go Hornets!" each time I looked at the card open. I cut the DSP in 3x3 (actually just a smidge under) and then cut them in half diagonally. You will notice that I was a little AR with the Daffodil Delight pattern and made sure that all the lines were going in the same direction when it was folded.
I wanted to add a lighter piece in the middle for a personal message. Using the tone on tone stamping with the Swallowtail allows for the message to be written right over the top of the stamped image. The middle piece of cardstock was cut at 5 1/2x5 1/2.

I plan to offer this as a product-based class in the near future, which will come with a video tutorial, along with the DSP and cardstock. Please let me know if you'd like to participate!

Swap Breakdown Day 1- Punch Art

Since I am a punch art newbie, I was excited to join this group to get some new ideas. The closer it came to the deadline of having to mail the swaps, the more panicked I got about what I should make. (This was the last swap I made) There are so many fabulous punch art ideas out there, but I really wanted to try and come up with an original design, as part of my reason for joining the swap was to challenge myself.

In the end, I kept it REALLY simple; but it's easy to duplicate! Each butterfly took one Pansy Punch, and then I cut off two petals for each side. I used my scrap petal to match up when I cut the others, so that I'd always be using the same wing shapes. I then cut about one-fourth of the Word Window Punch off for its body.

For awhile I was referring to this as my "sad little punch art," but I do have to say that I'm pretty pleased for my initial punch art creation. I can't wait to use this little guy on a card, and maybe use the Tangerine Tango marker on his wings to give him some extra color.

2013 Non-Convention Goers Stampin' Up! Swap

Since I could not attend the Stampin' Up! Annual Convention this year and swap with other demonstrators at Convention; I joined a swap with several other demonstrators who also are not attending convention this year. This is the second time that I've participated in Cindy Umbach's swap and she does a fabulous job organizing them!

If you are not familiar with a swap, here are the details: the swap organizer create categories and requirements within that category. For instance this is one of Cindy's descriptions:
SWAP TYPE 4:
Full Christmas Card:
7 + 1 in a Group! All full cards should measure 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. At least 4 layers with an embellishment!
The 7+1 means that each person makes 8 copies of the same card, and send them to the swap coordinator. The coordinator will keep one for themselves, as a "payment" for organizing the swap, and mail back seven different cards made by other people to that person. So I will get 7 new Christmas cards to use for inspiration.  Or it is possible that another stamper used a Christmas set that I don't own. Now, I will have a sample to share with my clients.

In this post I will just list the supplies that I used on each project. In subsequent posts, I will go into a little more detail about techniques used on the project or how I was inspired to create it. When that blog post is posted, I will link to it under each picture here.

All projects are Stampin' Up! only (SUO). I used the Paper Trimmer and Simply Scored on all projects, so I won't list them in the Supplies Used unless there was something special done with them. Also, all projects used SNAIL adhesive. If other adhesive was used on part of the project, that will be indicated.

July 2013 Stylin' Stampin' Blog Hop

Did you have a great 4th of July? I enjoyed the local display with my husband, but I have to admit I'm very glad that my neighborhood no longer sounds like a war zone until 11:00 every night!

Our blog hop theme this month is birthdays. My card this month is one that I taught at my June card class. It is a double pocket card and is made out of one piece of Designer Series Paper. Two cuts, a few scores, and a little folding; add some adhesive, decorate, and you're done. Well, the recipient of the card might appreciate something being put in the pockets. Perhaps some birthday money in this birthday card?

I really can't tell you what supplies I love most on this card. I love all our Washi Tape as it's so easy to use and adds so much to step up a project. I have used the Epic Day and Gingham Garden Designer Series Papers on several of my projects lately. Label Love is quickly becoming one of my most used stamp sets from the new catalog. The coordinating punch can't be beat! I like to layer behind this punch, by punching out an additional piece, cutting it in half and gluing the halves to the back so they peek out on the top and bottom.

You will see many exciting changes to my blog starting this weekend. I just finished and mailed 76 items for a swap I participated in, which was actually 10 different projects. I will be posting those swap projects this weekend with all the supplies used, and then a daily post featuring each of the projects, especially if I did something "tricky" on them. (Totally not tricky, but lots of fun!)

My second project is one of my favorites. It's a simple 3x3 card that can accompany a gift, or be given as a thank you to someone who's done something special for you. It features all new products. Remember the clay I mentioned in my last blog post? Well here it is! The flowers are made with our new paper clay, a reinker, and the new clay molds we have. This is by far one of my favorites in the catalog. It's fun, can be used so many different ways, and is EXTREMELY cost effective! You will be seeing it on many upcoming projects, as I ordered two bags before I realized exactly how many adorable flowers you can get out of one bag.
